While we are in the Season after Epiphany the Christian year begins in a liturgical church on the First Sunday of Advent, which is the 4th Sunday before Christmas Day. That means of course that the Christian Year goes through December to the Last after Pentecost the following calendar year. The first Sunday of Advent also marks the change to the cycle of years called A, B, and C, then reflects the primary Gospel read as Matthew, Mark, and Luke respectively.
